About

In May 2013, I am setting off for my first trip to Europe! As a gardener, my main motivation is to gain experience working in rock gardens and with alpine plants. These plants have captivated me with their brillant foliage and unique forms!

My trip starts in Edinburgh, Scotland with a two-month volunteer work experience at RBG Edinburgh (http://www.rbge.org.uk/). RBGE is scheduled to open a new alpine house this year.

I will then spend July working at Lautaret Alpine Botanical Garden (http://sajf.ujf-grenoble.fr/spip.php?rubrique71) in the French Alps. Here I am looking forward to seeing how alpine plants adapt to their harsh environment.

I'll also be posting about side trips and adventures along the way! Check out the Map tab to see where I am.

I received two grants to help fund my trip. The first was an Education Travel Grant from the Professional Gardener Alumni Association of Longwood Gardens. I also received a grant from the Diana Aitchison Fund of the Scottish Rock Garden Club.
